What is CBD?

What is CBD?

CBD stands for cannabidiol and is one of more than 110 cannabinoids found in the hemp plant.

One of the most active and well-known cannabinoids, CBD is used by people and pets to help

treat countless health conditions, painful symptoms, and support overall well-being. Many also

use it to help prevent issues from occurring in the future.

How does CBD work?

CBD oil interacts with our Endocannabinoid System (ECS), which is made up of cannabinoid

receptors throughout our body, bones, bodily systems, and organs.

The ECS controls vital physiological functions, like organ function, energy, inflammation, pain,

wound healing, memory, immune health, cognition, mood, stress response, mobility, and more.

It heavily regulates our nervous, endocrine, digestive, and immune systems.

The ECS helps maintain homeostasis: inner physiological balance. Homeostasis is how we live,

react to stress, adapt to change, and prevent damage. When homeostasis is disrupted, our

bodily systems can’t communicate or function properly, handle stress, or repair damage. This

can ultimately lead to health issues, chronic or acute disease, inflammation, and painful

symptoms.

Our body creates its own cannabinoids that support proper bodily communication and function.

Cannabinoids heavily impact appetite, pain perception, inflammation, immune system function,

and more. All mammalian bodies naturally produce endo-cannabinoids, while plants (like hemp)

produce phytocannabinoids.

When our body can’t make enough endo-cannabinoids, this can cause many health problems

and disrupts homeostasis.

When this happens, many people and pets often use phytocannabinoids (like CBD) to help

balance their ECS and maintain homeostasis. Some use CBD as needed for pain, stress, and sleep,

as well as for preventative care and general immune health.

What is full-spectrum hemp?

Full-spectrum hemp oil contains more than solely cannabidiol (CBD). It includes ALL

cannabinoids found in cannabis (including CBN, CBG, and CBC), terpenes, terpenoids,

flavonoids, and many other hemp plant compounds. It also contains trace amounts of THC at or

below 0.3%, which is the legal federal limit.

Hemp is a term for cannabis that mostly includes industrially-produced cannabis meant for non-

psychoactive use. For those who want to avoid psychoactive effects and still receive the

benefits of the whole hemp plant, they often use full-spectrum hemp oils.

What is the “Entourage Effect”?

Full-spectrum hemp provides high amounts of CBD alongside the full benefits of the plant due to

the Entourage Effect.

With the Entourage Effect, the combination of 100+ cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, and

other compounds work together, enhancing and boosting the benefits of each individual

cannabinoid.

This is known as synergy. Each cannabinoid and hemp plant compound is strong on its own -

but often amplifies each other’s effects when combined.

Research shows that full-spectrum hemp provides higher relief for many, compared to CBD

isolate. Studies also support that full-spectrum hemp’s effects strengthen with increased

dosages, while CBD isolate’s effects stay consistent.

What is CBD Isolate?

CBD isolate oil contains CBD only. The extraction process removes traces of THC,

cannabinoids, terpenes, oils, chlorophyll, and all other hemp compounds. CBD oil is an ideal

option for those sensitive to THC or other cannabinoids. It has no taste, odor, or psychoactive

effects, making it ideal for those sensitive to taste or smell.

Since the extract is isolated down to purely CBD, consumers do not experience the Entourage

Effect. But CBD isolate is helpful for those who need high doses of CBD or wish to avoid THC

altogether.

What is broad-spectrum hemp oil?

Broad spectrum hemp oil is full-spectrum hemp without the THC.

Like full-spectrum hemp oil, broad-spectrum hemp oil contains all other cannabinoids, terpenes,

and compounds. Folks still experience the Entourage Effect, but the THC is entirely removed,

meaning there is ZERO THC.

Broad-spectrum hemp oil is ideal for those who want the whole-plant benefits without

consuming THC.

Broad Spectrum CBD is a great choice for those who are sensitive to THC, living in states with

strict THC laws, or simply want a whole-plant option without the THC.

What’s best? Full spectrum, broad-spectrum, or CBD oil?

All extracts are regularly used for various health disorders, including chronic pain, inflammation,

anxiety, depression, medical conditions, bone health, gastrointestinal issues, sleep, and much

more. Full-spectrum hemp oil, broad-spectrum hemp oil, & CBD oil all interact with the

Endocannabinoid System and help support homeostasis.

It takes time to discover what type of hemp oil and consumption method works best for each

person. Cosset Wellness offers a wide selection of high-quality full-spectrum hemp oil, broad-spectrum hemp oil, CBD oil, hemp gummies, and CBD topicals to choose from. Always third-party lab-tested and made with USDA organic hemp extract.
